University Information Services

Legacy tickets allow visitors to the University, such as conference guests and academic visitors, to have temporary access to the wifi.

You can use 2 types of tickets to give visitors wifi access:

Short-term colleague legacy tickets

Staff can give visiting colleagues temporary wifi access by issuing them a colleague ticket. The member of staff who issues the ticket is responsible for the visitor's network usage and the ISC rules apply. Academic visitors staying in Cambridge for more than a month should obtain credentials to access eduroam rather than using the ticketing system.

To create a colleague ticket:

  1. Go to the Console, and log in using your University account (formerly Raven). Select the 'Colleague Tickets' tab.
  2. Add the visitor's name in the 'Recipient' field and complete the information for 'Created For Valid From' and 'Valid Through'.

  3.  Select the + button next to the 'Valid Through' date.
  4. You can now choose to send the information to them by email or SMS (text message), delete the ticket, or print it out and give it to them in person. You need to move your mouse over the 'Password' field to show the password.

Institution legacy tickets

Only IT staff who have the "University Wireless Service ticket admin group" permissions for their institution can issue legacy tickets. This is a group within the Lookup directory whose membership is determined locally, by each institution.

Legacy visitor tickets (single user)

To issue tickets, go to the Console, and log in using your University account (formerly Raven).

These tickets are intended to be short-term. Any academic visitors staying in Cambridge for more than a month should obtain credentials to connect via eduroam.

Bulk tickets

You can also issue bulk tickets for larger numbers of visitors. For example, if your institution is holding a conference.

You can set a validity period when you issue the ticket. It’s also possible to set a duration of validity from the first use if the start date is flexible.

To issue tickets, go to the Console, and log in using your University account (formerly Raven).

Creating tickets for events

You can use the console to create large batches of legacy user tickets for events.

To create an event select the 'Events' tab and then the 'Click here to create a new event link'. Complete the form then select the 'Save' button to save the event.

You cannot change the number of tickets for an event after you have saved the event. If you find that you need to create more tickets for the same event you will need to create a new event. The new event cannot have exactly the same name as the original event so you will need to amend the name slightly.

The system will create the number of tickets you specify, all with the same date and duration values. The event functionality also includes the ability to export the tickets as a CSV file. You can also print the user tickets in a one-per-page format suitable for stuffing in envelopes or handing to users.

You can also edit the event if you need to change the name, valid dates or duration, or expire (cancel) an event. These actions affect all the associated user tickets.

Tickets should be assigned to individuals who will be responsible for following the usage policy. Issuing institutions must keep a record of any tickets assigned to individuals. This includes any spare tickets issued to a user who has forgotten their details.
