University Information Services (UIS) provides computing facilities for all students. This includes their University accounts (formerly Raven) and Microsoft accounts.
Students can find out how to get started with IT including collecting their CRSid and password.
Undergraduates
Accounts for Undergraduates are set up in several stages:
- In May, prospective students who have applied via UCAS are given a CRSid.
- Information concerning visiting students and students who enter by other routes is collected during the summer.
- IT accounts are set up for confirmed students in mid-September.
Details of the student data, including the CRSid, are available to Colleges from the CamSIS Help Desk via camsishelp@admin.cam.ac.uk. Departments can contact UIS via user-admin@uis.cam.ac.uk.
IT accounts are cancelled when the undergraduate leaves Cambridge. Students continuing to a further degree or becoming a member of staff can have their accounts extended. Students are contacted by email before their accounts are cancelled.
Postgraduates
IT accounts of postgraduates continuing to a further degree without interruption to their studies are kept open, where possible. Accounts are closed for those who leave the University for a term or more between their degrees.
Collecting data about the postgraduates who are expected is not straightforward. Data comes from several sources including:
- the Board of Graduate Studies
- the School of Education
- the Judge Business School (former Judge Institute of Management)
- the School of Clinical Medicine
- Institute of Continuing Education and Departments
Accounts are set up for new students shortly before the start of the term when they are expected to commence their studies. For the Michaelmas term, the first registration takes place early in July. Data is then updated daily. The first registration for Lent entry students is in early December. Data is then updated on a daily basis. The first Easter term registration is in March.
Details of the student data, including the CRSid, are available to Colleges from the CamSIS Help Desk via camsishelp@admin.cam.ac.uk. Departments can contact UIS via user-admin@uis.cam.ac.uk.
IT accounts are cancelled when the postgraduate leaves Cambridge. Students continuing to a further degree or becoming a member of staff can have their accounts extended. Students are contacted by email before their accounts are cancelled.
Students on courses with a known finishing date are cancelled at the end of their course. Research students and others without a fixed finishing date are cancelled when they cease to be students. Students continuing to a further degree or becoming a member of staff can have their accounts extended. Students are contacted by email before their accounts are cancelled.
Collecting passwords
Students will get a welcome email from the Student Registry (cambridge.registration@admin.cam.ac.uk), inviting them to complete student registration.
At the end of the student registration, they will be given a link to collect their CRSid and temporary University account password.
Each student will need to supply information which includes their admissions number as follows:
- Undergraduates: UCAS number
- Postgraduate applying via the Board of Graduate Studies: Board of Graduate Studies Application number
