The University Managed Desktop (UMD) has now replaced the UAS Desktop service. We are migrating existing users over to UMD devices.
If you work for the Unified Administrative Service (UAS), you'll be allocated either a PC or laptop running the UAS desktop. You'll be able to access this computer, and other UAS Desktop PCs with your UAS account.
If you haven't been allocated a computer or yours needs renewing, your line manager should contact the UAS Service Desk for assistance.
Access to popular software and specialist resources
Your UAS account gives you access to UAS-specific resources and a range of software titles, including Microsoft Office, AutoDesk Viewer, Filezilla, PuTTY and Vue.
All staff using the Administrative Computing Network (ACN) are provided with an email address. You can log in via webmail with your [CRSid]@cam.ac.uk email address and University IT account password.
Webmail
You can use the Outlook Web App to access your Exchange Online email account:
Email app settings
You can also install an email app on your computer and other devices to access email.
Remote access
You can connect to the University network when away from the University in order to access files and business systems.
Printing, copying and scanning
Printers, copiers and scanners are purchased or leased by your department. As long as there are no compatibility issues, we are happy to connect your copier to the network and support its software.
Contact the UAS Service Desk if you need help configuring your printer.
Filestore
When you login to your UAS account you will be able to access local, and networked mapped drives. You are advised to store files on mapped drives as you will then be able to access these drives from other UAS Desktop computers and remotely via the VPN.
Security
Files stored on networked drives sit in our centrally backed-up, secure file servers.
Your UAS Desktop PC/laptop will be updated and security patched on the first and third Tuesday of the month. In order to minimise disruption, these updates take place outside normal office hours at 06:15 and 20:00. Urgently required updates will be applied immediately.
Changing your UAS Desktop and remote access password
Change these passwords on your device. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL on your keyboard and use the built-in password manager.
