You may need to update the settings on the email apps you use to access your University email account after you've set up multi-factor authentication (MFA).
We recommend and can provide support for:
Apple Mail
This is Apple's native mail app on its macOS and iOS devices. If you already have your University email account set up in the Apple Mail app, you'll need to remove it and add it again to get it working after MFA is activated because the authentication method has changed. You won't lose any data by doing this.
Outlook
Outlook is available for macOS and Windows PCs as well as Android and iOS mobile devices. If you already use this app for your University email account, you shouldn't need to make any changes after you've set up MFA.
Thunderbird
This app is available for Linux, macOS and Windows PCs. If you already have Thunderbird set up to receive your University email using a basic configuration, all you'll need to do is change the authentication method from 'normal password' to 'OAuth2' on both the incoming and outgoing servers.

Other email apps
We're unable to provide support for other email apps, but can offer the following information, which you may find useful.
Alpine
Information on how to set up Alpine to support modern authentication is available on the Alpine website. Where that page indicates an example email address in the form YourID@outlook.com, you should subtitute your individual mailbox address in the form [CRSid]@cam.ac.uk.
Gmail
Google's mail app is available for Android and iOS devices. If you already have your University email account set up in the Gmail app, you'll need to remove it and add it again to get it working after MFA is activated because the authentication method has changed. You won't lose any data by doing this.
We believe the Gmail website doesn't currently support modern authentication methods, so you wouldn't be able to use the web browser-based version of Gmail to send mail from your University email account.
Samsung mail
We are aware that the native mail app Samsung provides with some of its mobile devices has known issues and might not work with MFA, so we don't recommend using it for University email.
