The University Managed Print Service

You can print, copy and scan using the University's Managed Print Service. It's available in College and Department computer rooms that use the University Managed Desktop (UMD) service.

You can also use the service to print from your laptop or PC.

Paying for printing

You pay for printing using credits on either your Common Balance or Local Balance.

Many Colleges and Departments use the University-wide Common Balance. If you're a student, you can top up your Common Balance print credit online using a debit or credit card.

Some Colleges and Departments operate their own Local Balance scheme. This may include some free credits.

Common Balance credits

You can buy Common Balance credit using a credit or debit card on the Managed Print Portal. You must connect to the University Data Network, or the VPN access.

You can also view:

  • your transaction and print job history
  • print and copying costsrates
  • your environmental impact

You can use cash at some participating Colleges and Departments to buy credit.

The minimum top-up is £1, which buys about 20 black and white A4 sheets of printing or copying.

Local Balance credits

You can check your Local Balance credits using the Managed Print Portal. You must connect to the University Data Network, or on the VPN to access. Speak to your local IT staff about topping up your Local Balance credit.

How to print

Print without installing software

You can use Web Print to print to Managed Print Service multi-function devices (MFDs) using a web browser. You don’t need to install any software.

You can only print in A4 with black ink using Web Print. It also prints on both sides of the page. Install printing software to print in colour or with different settings.

Staff and students with credit on either their Local or Common Balance can use Web Print.

Installing printing software

Print Deploy gives you more flexibility in your printing settings. You can print in colour, with different paper sizes, and print single sides of paper only.

You must be connected to the University network or on the VPN to use Print Deploy.

Staff and students with credit on either their Local or Common Balance can use Web Print.
