IT Help and Support

University Information Services

We enabled a feature in Exchange Online on 11 November to help prevent phishing attacks. A ‘first contact’ safety tip is displayed when you receive an email from someone you don’t usually receive messages from.

The tip displays the sender's full email address for a visual verification and a ‘Learn why’ link to a ‘protect yourself from phishing’ support page.

The safety tip will be displayed;

  • the first time you get a message from a sender
  • if you don’t often get messages from a sender

It's not unusual to receive an email from someone for the first time but this can be a sign of phishing, so do be vigilant.

If you have any queries, please contact the UIS Service Desk at servicedesk@uis.cam.ac.uk.
