The UMD is available in single-user (ADMIN), and shared-use (ACAD) configurations.  

  • Single-user configuration is intended for use by staff on ‘personal’ devices 
  • Shared-use configuration is intended for devices in computer rooms, libraries and open-access areas. This configuration is intended as a replacement for the MCS. 

In addition to preinstalled software single-user configured devices can also install additional applications through the Company Portal app on Windows UMD devices, and the Self Service app on macOS UMD devices. If software is needed but not available in either of these self-service apps it can be requested using the UMD software request form. Not all software is available in all locations. If sites would like licensed software made available on their devices then a valid licence will need to be provided. Please contact the Service Desk for further information. 

All software pre-installed, or installed via Self Service or Company Portal, will be periodically updated to ensure security is maintained. It may be necessary for some updates to be expedited if there is a security requirement. Software may be pre-configured to ease the user experience. 

If software is installed by the user or IT staff it will be the user’s responsibility to keep this software up to date.
