This guide has been created to help IT staff migrating users of the UAS desktop to the UMD. If you are unsure if this guide is meant for you contact your local IT support.

As part of the migration process your current device will be wiped, and all non-saved data will be lost. You will therefore need to save any files you want to keep. You'll also need to export your web browser bookmarks and save your email signatures if you want to use them again after migration.

Saving your files

If you are unsure what files you need to keep contact your local IT support. You can save your files to a USB stick, OneDrive, SharePoint or the IFS

Windows

Check the following folders for any files want to keep. They can be found under ‘This PC’:

  • Desktop
  • Documents
  • Downloads
  • Music
  • Pictures
  • Videos

M:\ drive

You will not have access to the M:\ drive on your UMD device after you migrate. Check the drive for any files want to keep.

macOS

Check the following folders for any files wish to keep. They can be found in the Finder by going to Go and then Home:

  • Desktop
  • Documents
  • Downloads
  • Music
  • Pictures
  • Movies

Applications

Initially you may not have the same applications installed on your new UMD device as you had on your old device. You can install applications on your new UMD device using Company Portal (Windows) or Self Service (macOS). You will need a valid licence for any paid-for applications.

Web browser bookmarks

You can export your bookmarks to cloud storage. Your bookmarks can then be imported into your new UMD device. Instructions for each browser are given below.

  • Edge
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Safari using iCloud
  • Safari via export/import

Outlook email signature

If you want to retain your email signature for use on your new UMD device the easiest way to do this is to send yourself a blank email with it on. You can then easily recreate this on your new UMD device.
