What is a CRSid?
Everyone at Cambridge has a Common Registration Scheme Identifier, known as your 'CRSid'. It is made up of your initials and a random number, for example, acb123. It is unique to you and is usually allocated for life so if you leave and return, you will get your original CRSid back.
It is used:
- to identify you for administrative purposes. For example, on online systems such as the Cambridge Student Information System (CamSIS) or the Cambridge Human Resources Information System (CHRIS)
- as your @cam email address in the format: [CRSid]@cam.ac.uk
- as your username when you log in to University systems and resources protected by your University account password (formerly Raven).
How do I get my CRSid?
Undergraduate students
Your CRSid is created before you arrive. This is so that you can access the following in advance of starting at Cambridge:
- your @cam email
- reading lists by logging using your University account
- Moodle, the University Virtual Learning Environment
- any other information your College or Departments shares with you before you arrive.
In late August, the Student Registry will email you instructions for student registration. At the end of this you will be prompted to collect your CRSid and set up your own University account password.
Postgraduate students
Your Department will contact you with information about how to collect your IT accounts, including your CRSid, before you start.
Staff, visitors and Academic Visitors
Your College, Department or Institution will provide you with a registration code.
Once you have this go to the Jackdaw website to sign up to your CRSid and access to your University IT accounts: https://jackdaw.cam.ac.uk/signup/.
Can I change my CRSid?
Changing a CRSid is only done under certain circumstances. This needs to be arranged by the User Administration team at UIS. Please email user-admin@uis.cam.ac.uk with the details of your request to find out if this is possible and if so, the process that will be followed.
