Microsoft Teams is now live. It is a recommended and supported online collaboration tool for the University. Teams is integrated with other Microsoft 365 (formerly known as Office 365) products. It brings together everything you need to collaborate with groups of colleagues in one online workspace.
Institutional Teams site
Your institution has its own Teams site, of which you should have been made a member. Once you have accessed Teams, you should see it listed under the Teams icon in the menu. If you do not have access, please contact your institutional IT staff.
Microsoft at Cambridge Hub
To help you get started, we have created the Microsoft Teams at Cambridge Hub website as a place to gather news and information about Teams and provide useful links to help you learn how to use it effectively, including:
Creating new Teams
Please note that we have temporarily disabled the ability for people to create their own Teams during the early release period. Before requesting a new Team, consider whether creating a Channel within your institutional Team may be the best option. In future, you will click the Join or create Team button, but for the time being there is a manual request process to follow. This is documented on the hub site. Please be patient while we manage these requests.
Support for Teams
We anticipate you may have number of queries as you and your colleagues start to explore this new tool. There is a wealth of online resources about using Teams, and we ask that you try to explore these before contacting University Information Services (UIS). UIS will endeavour to respond to your queries as a priority, however we may have to triage some of the calls. We have a dedicated, but currently stretched, group of staff to dealing with administration and new Team creation requests. They will be as responsive as possible, but we kindly ask you to bear with them during this busy time.
We will post news updates, service information and shared learnings on the Microsoft Teams at Cambridge Hub, so please check there regularly going forward.
