Panopto now available for recording and sharing online educational videos

last modified Mar 30, 2020 02:04 PM
UIS has made Panopto, an online video recording and hosting system, available across the University as part of its measures to support teaching and learning activities during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Teaching staff can use the Panopto software on their own desktops/laptops to record educational videos (for example, at home) and deliver them to students via Moodle, alongside their other course materials.

Note that although Panopto is the service we are currently using for the lecture capture pilot, this does not represent a rollout of that service. Likewise, use of the desktop recording system doesn't entail participation in lecture capture pilot now or at a future stage. The development of the lecture capture service, including the usual vendor selection process, will resume when we return to normal business.

You can find further information, including instructions on downloading and using the software, in our Panopto Educational Video Support Moodle course. This course is a work in progress, and we will be adding further information, resources and responses to frequently asked questions over time.

Note that in order to upload educational videos to a Moodle course, your local Moodle Coordinator will need to add the Panopto block to the course and you will need to have an editing role on the course. Speak to your Moodle Coordinator about making these arrangements if you would like to use the system.
