  • A Dell Family Driver Pack zip file for the device model (located in ‘Dell Driver Packs Local’. Do not unzip the contents.)

Provisioning the device

Step 1: Boot from USB

Turn on the machine and press F12 on the Dell splash screen to enter the boot menu.

Select the USB boot stick and provide the relevant BIOS password if prompted.

If the USB is not shown on the boot menu, try the following:

  • Change the storage SATA/NVMe operation from to AHCI in the BIOS.
  • Reset BIOS to factory settings. This will reboot the machine.

Step 2: Dell Image Assist

After booting from USB, Dell Image Assist will load in a few moments.

Select "Restore".

If the WIM file and Dell Family Driver Pack are not found automatically, you can manually "Browse" for the WIM file and "Driver Path".

Select "Restore Image".

Once complete, you can leave the USB in place and select "Reboot".

Open the relevant text file to build a ‘Shared Use’, ‘Single User’, 'Academic' or 'System' UMD device. This is indicated in the filename. (For replacing an MCS device, use the file for ‘Academic’ use devices.)

Copy the commands from the text file.

Type "PowerShell" in the command-line.

From this point, the device must be connected to the internet.

Paste the commands into the command-line.

Confirm "Yes" or "Yes to All" where appropriate to allow the requested changes.
