University Information Services

This message only applies to people who have manually installed VPN certificates on their computers.

The UIS VPN and Managed VPN service will standardise on automated SSL certificate replacements starting on 4 August.

This means that clients will need to validate the certificates based on the ‘chain of trust’, as the actual server certificates will change frequently and without notice.

Most clients are already configured to do this. Users of Windows, Apple, and the StrongSWAN app don't need to do anything.

Linux users may need to act

Users of Linux systems who configured their computers more than a year ago (or followed the old configuration instructions) will need to reconfigure their devices. The current Linux installation instructions describe how this should be configured. See:

Ubuntu 22.04 and 20.04 Desktop

Once this change is implemented, the VPN server certificates will no longer be available to download from the UIS Help web site.
