Internet Recovery without a wired connection
If you are without a wired connection and need to use the built-in Internet Recovery you can do the following:
Pre-Requisite: Another Mac
On the other Mac
In System Preferences - Sharing
Highlight Internet Sharing and ensure that Share your connection from: Ethernet is selected
To computers using: Wi-Fi is ticked
Click to Enable Internet Sharing then click on Start, setting an access password as required
Back on the machine to be recovered and you can now connect to the Wi-Fi network that you have just shared and continue with the Internet Recovery.
Screen Saver Lock
- Problem: The screensaver lock cannot be enabled in System Preferences > Security & Privacy as the option is greyed out.
- Cause: A bug in the software used to manage the Macs
- Resolution: The software provider is aware of the bug. It is hoped the bug will be fixed in a forthcoming update.
- Workaround:
- Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities
- Select Preferences from the Keychain Access menu
- Tick 'Show keychain status in menu bar'
- From the padlock now available at the right end of the menu bar choose Lock Screen
