University Information Services

Professor Ian Leslie, the Director of University Information Services (UIS), retires in May. Our Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chris Russell, will act as UIS’s Interim Director until the appointment of a permanent replacement.

Four members of UIS’s Senior Leadership Team have volunteered to share the responsibilities of the COO during the interim period:

  • Gabriela Ahmadi-Assalemi, Interim COO for Security and Technology Operations. In addition to her role as Chief Information and Security Officer for Technical Operations, Gabby will take responsibility for developing and adopting a single technology strategy for UIS. The Large Systems function led by Ron Chambers and the DevOps function led by Abraham Martin will report into Gabby. She will also be working with Jamie Thorogood, our Chief Architect, who will take over as chair of the Technical Design Authority (TDA).

  • Richard Hey, Deputy Director. Alongside his role as Head of Institutional Liaison and Relationship Management, Richard will be working with all of UIS and the wider University to ensure that we collaborate towards shared goals and strategies.

  • Jon Holgate, Interim COO for Infrastructure and Service Operations. Alongside his role as Head of Infrastructure, Jon will be responsible for aligning our approach to IT service management across UIS.

  • Chris Mitchell, Interim COO for Digital and Delivery Operations. In addition to his role as Head of Product and Service Design, Chris will take responsibility for the Delivery Management Office (DMO). Mark Rowland, the Head of the DMO, will report to Chris Mitchell. Chris will lead on non-technical governance, including the development and adoption of a digital service model.

These four will assume their new roles on Monday 15 April, to give time for handover before Ian Leslie retires at the end of May.
