Microsoft is replacing its original version of Stream, which it refers to as 'Stream (Classic)', with Microsoft Stream (on SharePoint), where videos are saved to SharePoint by default.

What do you need to do?

You don’t need to do anything for recordings made since 4 January 2021 because new recordings have been saved in Sharepoint automatically since that date.

If you have videos made before 4 January 2021 that you wish to keep, you’ll need to follow the steps below before 29 February 2024. Any recordings hosted on Stream (Classic) that are not migrated will be lost.

  1. Review the videos currently hosted on Stream (Classic). Depending on the original source of each video, they’ll be in one of the following locations:

https://web.microsoftstream.com/studio/groups

https://web.microsoftstream.com/studio/channels

https://web.microsoftstream.com/studio/meetings

https://web.microsoftstream.com/studio/videos

  1. If you don’t wish to keep the videos, you don’t need to do anything else. Microsoft will automatically delete them when Stream (Classic) retires.
  2. If you wish to keep any videos, you’ll need to download them and then upload them to another storage location, such as OneDrive, SharePoint or a Teams SharePoint site.

You can follow our instructions on how to migrate videos from Stream (Classic).
