University Information Services

BT is switching off the UK’s old public switched telephone network (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) services in 2025.

The University’s telephone service will not be affected by this change because it is an IP-based digital service. However, the University currently uses analogue lines for some other services.

Over the next 12 months Estates Division will replace the provision of our alarms for fire, security, critical services, and Building Management Systems from BT Redcare services to DualCom. They will also upgrade analogue lines that are currently used for lift lines to a GSM connection utilising the mobile phone network.

If there are any other analogue lines currently in use in other institutions, these should be moved to analogue VoIP connection on the phone system where possible.
