IT Help and Support

University Information Services

3 November 2022

We have revised our approach to the development of the University’s virtual learning environment (VLE), Moodle, based on feedback from users and learnings from the Digital Presence Programme.

Rather than impose a new acceptable use policy on the existing Moodle, we propose to build a new Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TLA) Moodle that will host only TLA content. This purpose-built TLA Moodle will enhance student experience and course administration, meet accessibility legislation and help the University manage data.

We will be working with the University and consulting widely to identify the requirements for the new TLA Moodle. In the meantime, we will continue to review how the existing Moodle is used and how we might better support those needs in the future. We have been piloting and refining a new ‘course use’ field with some Moodle ‘power users’ during the past year. We’ll ask course owners to complete this field, by selecting an option from the dropdown list, when creating new courses from Lent Term 2023. This will help us to understand what broad categories Moodle is supporting.

If you have a question about Moodle, please contact the Teaching and Learning Systems team at MoodleHelp@uis.cam.ac.uk.
