University Information Services

UIS will be applying firmware updates to all point-of-presence (PoP) switches before the start of Michaelmas Term 2024.

Update schedule

•    Dates: Monday 16 September to Friday 27 September
•    Time: 03:00 (daily)
•    Duration: Approximately 10 to 15 minutes per PoP
•    Number of PoPs affected: 10 to 15 switches will be updated each morning

User impact

Institutions will be disconnected from the University Data Network (UDN) during the 10 to 15 minute reload window on the day of their PoP upgrade.

When will my institution be affected?

The schedule outlining which PoPs will be updated on which day is listed below. Unfortunately, due to the large number of switches involved, this update schedule can’t be modified.

Testing and verification

The new firmware version has been thoroughly tested and is already live on over 30 PoP switches. No issues have been reported.

Previously updated switches

The new firmware was applied some time ago, pending a reload. If your PoP switch is not listed on the schedule, it has already received the new firmware update. This likely occurred following localised power issues that triggered a reload.

Contact

If you anticipate any potential problems arising from these planned updates, please email us at network-systems@uis.cam.ac.uk as soon as possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this necessary maintenance.
