University Information Services

What’s happening

Microsoft is making some changes to Channels in Teams. Rollout starts in mid-June and should be finished by the end of June. The University’s tenancy will be updated at some point during this period.

What’s changing

Here’s a quick tour of the new Channels interface:

  • Compose box and recent posts will move to the top of the page.
  • New information sidebar lets everyone see the channel info and updates right in the channel.
  • Posts will behave more like chat threads – you can view in a pop-out window so you can keep an eye on it while you continue working.
  • Pin posts to keep important posts visible in the new sidebar.
  • Simplified badging makes it easier to see new unread activities and helps you focus on the channels that need your attention, for example, if you have been @mentioned.
