The annual archive of Panopto lecture capture content has been scheduled for 3 September. Live content created on or before 31 August 2024 will be moved into the Panopto archive. Last year’s archive, containing content created on or before 31 August 2023, will be permanently deleted on 31 August 2024.

Why do we need to archive?

The University introduced automatic archiving due to a change in Panopto licencing, which required a reduction in the content stored.

Live content created on or before 31 August 2024 will be automatically moved into the archive overnight. Content created between 1 September and 3 September 2024 will remain live and not be archived.

Sessions with reference copies or that have been used as a clip in another session won’t be archived automatically. We recommend you archive these manually.

Sessions can be retrieved from the archive for up to one year before being permanently deleted.

View the archive process and retention policy.

Restore a recording from the archive

Content owners can restore recordings from the archive for reuse with an active cohort or download the recording as an MP4 file and store it in a personal storage drive such as OneDrive.

Content owners wishing to restore recordings from the current archive must do so before 28 August as it can take up to 48 hours for content to be restored.

Key dates

  • 28 August 2024 – last date to restore content from the current archive.
  • 31 August 2024 – content in the current archive will be permanently deleted.
  • 3 September 2024 – live content created on or before 31 August 2024 will be archived overnight.
