The M: drive (i.e. the home drive for ACN/UAS users) is not available in the University Managed Desktop (UMD) remote access service (AppsAnywhere). You must switch to using your personal OneDrive for Business file store instead of the M: drive. Once you have copied all the data from your M: drive to your OneDrive, stop using the M: drive because changes do not get synced with your virtual UMD Windows desktop.

These instructions walk you through moving files off the M: drive into your OneDrive and setting your OneDrive as the default Documents folder on your AppsAnywhere virtual desktop.

Step 1 – move your files from the M: drive to your personal OneDrive file store.

  1. Sign in to the ACN remote access servers (see Remote access when working away from the University).

  2. Open the OneDrive app from the Start menu:

  3. You will see the Set up OneDrive screen, prefilled with your CRSid@cam.ac.uk email address. Click the Sign in button:

  4. ...and you will be transferred to the standard University Microsoft login pop-up window.
Enter your Raven password and click the Sign in button:

  5. Click the Next buttons to set up your OneDrive configuration using the default options:

Click Later to skip downloading the mobile app for now (you can get the mobile app any time from your device's app store, e.g. Google Play or Apple's App Store):

Finally, click the Open my OneDrive folder button:

  6. You will now see your OneDrive – University of Cambridge area:

  7. Locate the Documents folder and open in a new window.

NOTE: If you don't have a folder called Documents in your main OneDrive area, create it by selecting My files > New > Folder:

  8. Locate and open the M: Drive (it is in your Network locations alongside drives such as K:, R: etc.):

  9. With both the M: drive and your OneDrive areas open on screen, highlight the files in the M: Drive that you want to copy and drag-and-drop them into the OneDrive Documents window to start the file upload:

  10. Once you have moved/copied over the items from your M Drive to your University OneDrive Documents folder you will now be ready to see those items in the Citrix workspace. Please allow for time for those items to upload as depending on the size of the files that could take a little while to complete.

Step 2 – locating your OneDrive Documents folder in Citrix Workspace (AppsAnywhere remote access service)

  1. Sign in to Citrix Workspace and OneDrive
When you sign in to Citrix Workspace (AppsAnywhere service) you should also be prompted to sign into your Microsoft One drive account using the familiar University Microsoft login screen that you use to log in to all the other Microsoft services (as step 2 above).
If you didn't get prompted to log in to OneDrive...

You'll need to sign in by clicking on the OneDrive icon – it looks like a cloud. You will find this either in the Quick Access panel on the left side of the File Explorer window or in the Notification Tray at the bottom right of the dektop:

A pop-up window will give you the option to Sign in. Follow the prompts using your CRSid@cam.ac.uk email address and Raven password to log in:

  2. Click the Next button:

  3. Click the Open my OneDrive folder button:

  4. You will now see a OneDrive – University of Cambridge area in the Quick Access panel in the Explorer on the left-hand side and you should start to see content appear as you select it:

  5. Your OneDrive data will start to synchronise and populate in the File Explorer.

The Documents folder in the OneDrive – University of Cambridge area is now the new home for what was the M: drive in the ACN environment. Opening Documents under the This PC area in File Explorer will take you to the new OneDrive Documents folder:

You will also notice that other OneDrive areas are now available from within the File Explorer. These have a small cloud icon next to them (e.g. Desktop and Pictures).

IMPORTANT: Please note that there is no sync between the M: Drive folder and OneDrive. Once we see that you have copied all your M: drive files to OneDrive, the M: drive mapping will be removed automatically from the UAS Desktop on your work PC/laptop.
