Your Cambridge student identity
CRSid – your username
Your unique identifier at Cambridge. We call it your CRSid. It is created from your initials and a randomly assigned number, e.g. fjc55. It is used for your username and @cam email.
Raven password
Your Raven password lets you log in, access your Hermes (@cam) email and use Desktop Services. If you forget your password, just ask your College’s Computer Officer for a Password Reset Token. You’ll need photo ID.

Raven is the University’s online authentication system. Log in with your CRSid and

University Card
Your University of Cambridge identity card. If you lose it, or have any problems with it, talk to your College’s Card Rep.

Your student record
The Cambridge Student Information Service (CamSIS) is the University’s online system for managing your student information and transactions, from initial contact and application to your graduation. You’ll use CamSIS to:
- manage your personal information
- view your supervision reports, and request official transcripts
- view your exam results.
- Log in with your UIS Password – protect it so others can’t view your personal information.
Hermes email
The University’s central email system. Your Hermes email address is used by the University and your College to contact you. Your email address will be your CRSid (your username) followed by the @cam domain, e.g. fjc55@cam.ac.uk.

Hermes Webmail

Wi-Fi

The CUDN
The Cambridge University Data Network (CUDN) is the University’s private data network. You agreed to the acceptable use policy for the CUDN when you collected your CRSid and UIS Password. Some resources are only available when you are connected to the CUDN.
Desktop Services (DS)
Open-access workstations (the Managed Cluster Service)
The Managed Cluster Service (MCS) provides open-access machines at several public locations around the University, which run a wide variety of software on Windows®, Mac OS® and Linux® platforms. Log in to your personalised desktop on the MCS machines using your CRSid and UIS Password.
Where are the MCS rooms?
There are MCS facilities in some Institutions, the University Library, and on the New Museums Site. There is a map of the UIS-managed MCS rooms, their facilities, and details of opening hours here: www.uis.cam.ac.uk/mcs-rooms
Printing, copying and scanning services
You can print from your personal machines to the managed printers in the some Colleges and Departments, and the University Library. Payment is by e-credit. Other printing facilities may be available in your College: www.uis.cam.ac.uk/ds-print
DS-Filestore – 3Gb file storage
This is a fully backed-up central filestore service. Your DS-Filestore is accessible from anywhere in the world, providing 3Gb storage space. It is a handy filestore for keeping secure backups of your work. A mobile web interface is also available: www.uis.cam.ac.uk/ds-filestore
DS-Web – personal web page
A simple personal and group web presence, which can be managed from anywhere in the world. Your pages are hosted and served using your DS-Filestore: www.uis.cam.ac.uk/ds-web
DS-Remote – remote access to Windows applications
Exclusively for students, DS-Remote gives you remote access to some Windows applications available on the MCS, using your own device with a remote desktop client installed:

Acceptable use of IT
- Use IT facilities only for the purpose and authorisation given to you.
- Don’t share your passwords, any access keys or PIN numbers with anyone else.
- Report weaknesses and incidents to your local Computing Officer or Service Desk, and any data infringement to the Head of Institution or Data Protection Officer.
- Don’t engage in any activity that could affect another user’s access.
Keep your anti-virus software up-to-date and take care, especially when opening emails, not to introduce malware. - Don’t copy any copyrighted material without the required authorization.
- Don’t run anything, or probe, to find compromises in the IT facilities.
- Don’t create, view or transmit offensive or obscene images, material or data
Delete work from public areas of shared devices, and log-out before you leave. - Always lock your account when away from your desk to stop others gaining access.
Any person believed to be in breach of one or more of these rules shall be reported by the Authorized Officer to the ISC who may at their discretion impose a penalty or penalties and may also recommend to the appropriate University or College Authority that proceedings be initiated under either or both of the University or College disciplinary procedures and any appropriate legislation.
