Who can get a University of Cambridge Microsoft account?

A University of Cambridge Microsoft account lets you install Office 365 ProPlus on your personal devices and gives you access to a 1TB OneDrive for Business cloud-based filestore. It also provides a licence to install Office desktop software on institutionally-owned machines. Here's how to check whether you qualify for an account:

How UIS determines which staff qualify for a University Cambridge Microsoft account

Staff employed directly by the 'core' University institutions (i.e. who are flagged as 'Staff' in the payroll system) are eligible.

New staff are added to the system a few days before their first pay day and will not be able to access the Microsoft portal until this happens – if this causes a problem, please contact the UIS Service Desk.

Staff from institutions that are merely affiliated or related to the University do not automatically qualify, unless they are from an insitution that has opted to join the University's EES Agreement:

List of non-University institutions participating in the University's EES Agreement

These institutions have paid for a specified number of licences for their staff, and allocate those licences as they see fit. They maintain their own list of licensed staff, which UIS uses to grant access to the University of Cambridge Microsoft portal.

If you are a memeber of staff from a non-University institution, but cannot log in to the Microsoft portal, please contact your local IT staff to check whether they have included you on their list of eligible staff – the UIS Service Desk can't add you to your institution's membership list.

Staff of the Judge Business School, Clinical School, Sainsbury Laboratory and Department of Zoology are covered under their respective institutions' own EES Agreements, and must log in to the Microsoft portal with their institutional email address and password instead.
