IT Help and Support

University Information Services

We've received several reports of a 'job scam' phishing scam being targeted at students – see the example below. DO NOT reply to or engage with this email.

The scammers email you with an offer of a part-time contract, with the intention of gaining your credentials/identification paperwork.
From previous experience, overseas students may be particularly at risk because details/scanned copies of passports/driving licenses are often requested as proof of identity.

If you have any doubts about an unsolicited job offer message, please consult your local departmental or College IT staff.

Example email: what to look out for...

The initial message might be short, without a subject, offering you an opportunity:

Dear Student,

We have another part time job vacancy with a 300 pounds weekly salary and it is done after classes at home anytime in the evening.

Your school email is for school activities, we will prefer that you provide another email aside from your school email for the job and for the full job details to be forwarded to you.

I await your quick response.

Regards,

Cynthia Collins
