We are rolling out changes to the UniofCam-Personal-IoT service in phases. Check when your building is being migrated over to this new service. Re-connect your personal devices after your building has migrated by following these instructions.
Before you start
If you're not a member of the University, please use the UniOfCam-Guest wifi network.
Check if your device can connect to eduroam first. UniOfCam-IoT is only for personal devices such as
- media streaming devices like Apple TV (tvOS 26 and above)
- virtual assistants such as Amazon Alexa
- smart speakers like Amazon Echo or Google Home
- streaming media adapters such as Chromecasts (1st generation Chromecasts are not supported)
- printers and other equipment
- Amazon Kindles (15.18.1 and above)
Be aware that your devices can connect to each other on the network through a technology called Aruba AirGroup. Stay alert to anyone else trying to access your ‘personal network’ as this poses a security risk.
Set up a personal device on UniOfCam-Personal-IoT
1. Go to https://iot.wireless.cam.ac.uk
2. Select "Sign in with University IT account".
3. Enter your University email address using the format CRSid@cam.ac.uk. Select “Next”
4. Enter your University IT account password. Select “Sign in”
5. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to stay signed in.
6. You will see your wifi password and a QR code. Enter this password or scan the QR code to connect your device to the network. You can use the same password for all of your devices.
Do not share your password with anyone else: it is connected to your University account. You are responsible for the device connected to the University Data Network.
If you scan the QR code, your device should automatically find the network. Enter your password when prompted.
If the network does not appear automatically, go to the wifi settings on your device. You should be able to find "UnifOfCam-Personal-IoT" in the list of available networks and enter your password.
7. You need to regenerate a new wifi password if:
- you forget your password
- lose a device
- think your password has been hacked or stolen
Once you have a new password, all devices that used the old one will need to be updated.
Regenerating a new password
- Go to https://iot.wireless.cam.ac.uk
- Click "Regenerate Wi-Fi Password"
- Click "Regenerate" on the pop-up message that asks if you’re sure you want a new password.
- You will see your new wifi password and a QR code. Enter this password or scan the QR code to reconnect your device to the network. You will need to update the password for all your devices. Do not share it with anyone else.
