IT Help and Support

University Information Services

When visitors first come to your website, they will see a cookie banner or notice informing them about the cookies on your site and asking them to consent, deny or set their own preferences.

If you have embedded YouTube or Vimeo videos on your site and the visitor denies marketing cookies, the video will not load. In it's place, a message will be displayed asking the user to accept cookies to show the embedded content or to view the content on YouTube or Vimeo.

This message can be replaced with a placeholder with a play button to more closely reflect your original page.

1. Navigate to the web page where a YouTube or Vimeo video is blocked.

2. Select the "Edit" tab.

3. Select "Source".

4. Find the <iframe> inside the Source view and identify the link to the video. It will be inside a src attribute. For example, src="https://www.youtube.com/[etc]".

5. Select the video URL and copy it.

6. Select "Source" again to view the normal editor.

7. Select the IFRAME block to select it, then press "[[delete]]" or "[[backspace]]" on your keyboard to delete it.

8. Ensure your cursor is placed where you would like the video to go. Then, select the Drupal "Media browser" button.

9. Select the "Web" tab.

10. Paste the YouTube or Vimeo URL in the "File URL or media resource" field and select "Next". Wait a few seconds for the video to be retrieved

11. Once the video has been retrieved, select "Submit".

12. Save the changes to the page.

13. Your YouTube or Vimeo video will now have a placeholder with a Play button. Selecting the button will open the video in a new tab. If the website visitor accepts marketing cookies, this placeholder will be replaced with the embedded video.
