University Information Services (UIS) currently offers two different website content management systems (CMSs): Falcon, which is based on Plone, and Drupal. They support more than 500 websites across the collegiate University combined. Running two CMSs is a duplication of cost and effort, and we now have very limited resources to support Plone. In order to streamline our offerings into a single service with ongoing support, we're developing 'Falcon on Drupal' – retaining the concept of Falcon as a service for existing users, but delivering it on the Drupal platform.
The benefits of Falcon-on-Drupal
- A starter site will have a comparable basic feature set to a Falcon-on-Plone site (see the feature comparison list for details).
- It will cost the same to site owners: £100 per year per site, including support.
- Drupal is the third most-popular CMS, and has a strong ecosystem of plug-in functionality. This will make it more flexible and adaptable to the University's needs in future.
- UIS has a dedicated team of developers who can provide support for the service.
- Training will be available to help Falcon users learn the new system.

Migration plans
Our aim is to complete the migration of Falcon-on-Plone sites to Falcon-on-Drupal by June 2021. Given the number of sites involved, the transition will be carefully phased and prioritised. Please contact us at webmaster@admin.cam.ac.uk to agree a time for migrating your site to the new service.
