Do use anti-virus software on your systems and run regular anti-virus scans. We provide free anti-virus software for all University staff and students for work and home use.

Don't disable your anti-virus software or forget to set up a regular scan.

Do be cautious about software and apps downloaded from the internet. Use official download and app stores and be wary of attachments sent by email.

Don't use pirated software and media (especially bootleg copies downloaded from uTorrents) because these are often used as a means of spreading malware.
Do ask your local Computer Officer or the UIS Service Desk to check your computer for malware if it is behaving strangely or running very slowly.

Don't download any anti-virus software that asks you to pay. We provide free anti-virus software to staff and students for work and home use.

We've created a Moodle course that contains a series of short films and quizzes explaining different online safety issues, with lots of helpful hints and tips.
