UIS hosting service

The UIS Hosting Service allows institutions to have their servers hosted in a UIS-managed data centre environment. Several sites are available with a range of facilities to suit your requirements.

The service features available include:

  • 24/7 onsite security
  • N+1 redundancy for power and cooling
  • Full maintenance call-out cover
  • Operational support
  • ISO/IEC 27001-certified high-performance computing facility

This service relieves the institution of the cost and effort of having to service and manage appropriate hosting facilities themselves.

Several networking options are available, depending on the type of hosting (physical versus virtual) and whether you use a dedicated or shared rack.

The costs

The costs vary according to your institution's requirements, but will include cabinet fees and power usage charges. For example:

  • Cabinet: £3000 per year
  • Power: 9.2p per kWh
  • Green levy: 1.4p per kWh

Retirement of UIS Windows Software Update Service (WSUS) on 30 June

We need to accelerate our original plan and fully decommission the Windows Software Update Service (WSUS) server on 30 June, rather than the 1 September, due to security concerns and the need to prioritise our resources to support the University.

The University Card Service will reopen with a limited service on Wednesday 1 July
