Resetting DSRM Admin Password

 

Resetting Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password

When you install Active Directory you are prompted to enter a password for Directory Services Restore mode. This should be different from your Administrator password. If you forgot the password and need to re-set it you can use the following;

Windows 2003 and 2008 Server

With 2003 Server you can use ntdsutil to re-set the password.

At the ntdsutil prompt enter "Set dsrm password" and enter;

  • reset password on server servername

To reset the local server use null, or for a remote server just put the name

Upgrade Windows 7 machines before the operating system reaches end of life on 14 January 2020

Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 7 on 14 January 2020. The good news is that you may be entitled to a free upgrade to Windows 10, if your institution is participating in the University's EES agreement.
