The transition from Mailman to Sympa is underway

As of 20 April 2021, UIS is starting to transition all Univeristy mailing lists from Mailman to Sympa. If the list you moderate has been migrated to Sympa, please refer to this information for Sympa mailing list moderators.

List moderators are nominated by list managers, and assist with the approval or rejection of both held subscription requests and held postings. Moderators cannot change any other aspect of a list.

To be able to perform all moderator functions you should use your @cam address. If a non-Cambridge address is used, you will only be able to approve postings using the reply method (see below); you will not be able to assist with subscription/unsubscription requests.

When something that requires moderator attention is received, for example a message from an unauthorised poster or a subscription request to a list where subscription requires approval, an email is sent to the moderator(s). This email contains the address of the list moderator page (https://lists.cam.ac.uk/mailman/admindb/list-name (replace list-name with the name of your list).

If the message is a subscription/unsubscription request then you need to go to your list moderator's page and log in using Raven authentication. Once you have authenticated the page will show a summary of the requests. Select the action you wish to take for each request then select Submit All Data button.

If the request is for a posting, and you wish to approve it, you can do this either by visiting the moderator's page, or by simply replying to the email you have received. If you are moderating using a non-Cambridge address then you can only approve the posting by replying to the email you received from Mailman.
