How to access a shared mailbox that has been migrated to Exchange Online if you have not yet migrated

During the ACN migration phase, you may find that a shared mailbox you use has been migrated to Exchange Online before you have (i.e. you are still using the old ACN email service on Exchange On Premise). These instructions explain how you can get to the migrated Exchange Online shared mailbox until you are migrated, too.

Prerequisites

  • You have synced your UIS Password.
  • You have access to Office 365.
  • You used to have access to the shared mailbox before it got migrated (i.e. this is not a new request for access).

Instructions

  1. In a web browser, go to https://outlook.office.com/owa/<email_address_of_mailbox>

    e.g. https://outlook.office.com/owa/servicedesk@uis.cam.ac.uk

  2. Sign in to Outlook:

    Username/email address = CRSid@cam.ac.uk (not your @admin email address)
Password = UIS Password (i.e. the one you use for Raven)

  3. The shared mailbox will open in your web browser.

Notes for IT support staff

  1. The person needing access will not have not had their Exchange Online licence added yet.
  2. They have synced their UIS Password to Blue, and have access to Office 365.
  3. They must be in the security group for that mailbox in Blue – for migrated Exchange On Premise shared mailboxes this should have copied over automatically with the mailbox's migration to Exchange Online.
