Practical advice and recording equipment loans

Professional video production advice, and equiment loan services from the SMS Support team.

Producing and editing video and audio can be a complex business requiring a high level of skill.

The Streaming Media Service (SMS) support team are able to give some advice about the best way of recording an event, and may be able to loan recording equipment (registered users of the SMS see https://wiki.csx.cam.ac.uk/sms/SMS_equipment_loans). Enquiries to sms-support@uis.cam.ac.uk.

UIS makes available the following video editing facilities on the MCS Macs:

  • Apple's iMovie software (on all Macs)
  • Final Cut Pro X (Phoenix Teaching Room 2)

There are Firewire ports on all machines so external hard disks containing files can be connected. Any student or member of staff can request a Desktop Services account.

In some of the University lecture theatres you can request that events are recorded – enquire when you are booking venues.

You must be aware of the legal issues regarding consent when you video or audio record an event (see also: Legal issues in media publishing).
