To enable Recording and Transcription options in your Teams meeting, the Copilot setting must be set to either 'During and after the meeting' or 'Only during the meeting'. This setting currently defaults to 'During and after the meeting'.
Microsoft has combined the 'Allow Copilot' setting with Recording and Transcription options for meetings, we cannot separate them so it is not possible to record a meeting if 'Allow Copilot' is set to 'Off'.
How to switch on recording for a meeting
Important: If 'Allow Copilot' is set to 'Off' you need to adjust this setting before your meeting starts. The recording setting will be greyed out if you try and adjust the meeting during a meeting.
Select "Meeting options" in the calendar item you're editing.
Go to "Copilot and other AI" and either keep it as "During and after meeting" or amend it to "Only during the meeting", then click "Save".
For A1 license holders recording and transcription can be started from within the meeting under the '...' menu then 'Record and transcribe':
For A3 license holders recording and transcription can be set to start automatically under the Meeting options. Under "Recording & transcription" section toggle "Record and transcribe automatically" to On then click "Save". This will start recording as soon as the meeting starts. Enabling recording in Outlook
To enable this using Outlook, create a Teams meeting and send the invite. Go back in to edit the meeting and scroll to the bottom of the invite. You should see the meeting options. Press Ctrl and follow the URL. It will open a new window in your browser. Finally, amend the settings as above.
Known issues
They don't occur for everyone but if they happen here are solutions.
Error message, 'Something went wrong. Try again' when trying to enable meeting recording
The resolution is to amend the 'Allow Copilot' setting first, then click "Apply". Next amend the Recording and transcription setting and "Save". Amending both settings at once causes the error.
