Extending the GBN to Hinxton Genome Campus

The Granta Backbone Network (GBN) is the collegiate university’s privately owned fibre optic network. The decision was taken in 2018 to extend the network to Babraham Institute and Wellcome Sanger Institute (Hinxton) to enable greater collaboration between institutions.

Desktop as a Service (DaaS)

Our Desktop and Systems team is currently exploring a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) as an additional way of providing managed desktop services to the University. This model hosts desktop software on a remote server and uses middleware to make applications available via an internet connection to any device, including desktop PCs, thin clients, phones and tablets.
