Bug in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 that affects new VPN configurations
The latest release of Apple's iPad and iPhone operating systems, due out today, has a bug that requires users to follow a different process when setting up a new VPN configuration. It doesn’t affect existing configurations.
AirGroup functionality expanded on University Wireless Service
We’ve expanded AirGroup functionality on the University Wireless Service. AirGroup enables personal devices to discover and communicate with each other via Wi-Fi – for example, it allows you to use Airplay from your mobile devices to your Apple TV.

During this period, users may experience interruptions when attempting to connect to eduroam, the UniOfCam guest system, the UniOfCam-IoT system and local SSIDs. Be on the alert for phishing and malware emails
University email accounts are currently receiving a high number of convincing phishing emails that contain attached files – typically Word documents – or a link to a website prompting the viewer to download a file. If opened, these files lead to a malware infection.
Maximum 1-year validity for TLS/SSL certificates from 1 September
All Certificate Authorities are required to stop issuing 2-year TLS/SSL certificates from 1 September 2020.
New Wi-Fi system for devices that can't connect via eduroam
We've released a new University Wireless system that allows staff and students to connect personal devices that can't currently connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi service.

University staff and students can access and complete certified MATLAB online training courses via the University of Cambridge MATLAB Portal and the University Training Booking System.
Panopto recording version update Friday 17 July 2020
Panopto will require all local desktop recorder software and remote recorders in lecture theatres to be upgraded to version 7.1 or above from Friday 17 July 2020. Most Panopto users won't need to update their software because versions downloaded since November 2019 will still be supported.

Retirement of UIS Windows Software Update Service (WSUS) on 30 June
We need to accelerate our original plan and fully decommission the Windows Software Update Service (WSUS) server on 30 June, rather than the 1 September, due to security concerns and the need to prioritise our resources to support the University.
The University Card Service will reopen with a limited service on Wednesday 1 July
