University Information Services

If you use the University’s Developers’ Hub, you may be interested in the new GitLab Pages feature, which we’ve just enabled.

What is GitLab Pages?

GitLab Pages provides an easy way to publish static web pages directly from a repository in GitLab.

What can it be used for?

You may want to use it to publish documentation pages – for example, sphinx documentation – or for development testing purposes.

GitLab Pages functionality and features:

  • Use any Static Site Generator (SSG) or plain HTML

  • Create documents for projects, groups or a user account

  • Set access control – useful for prototypes and testing

  • Connect custom domains

  • Automatically enabled SSL support

  • Automatically generated TLS certificate via Let's Encrypt

You can see an example we've set up at https://peoplestats.devops.uis.cam.ac.uk by the code stored at https://gitlab.developers.cam.ac.uk/uis/devops/experiments/camcount/-/blob/master/.gitlab-ci.yml

For more information and instructions on how to get started with GitLab Pages, see GitLab’s documentation and the help page on the Developers’ Hub
