IT Help and Support

University Information Services

We will upgrade and restart the University Data Network (UDN) distribution routers to apply the latest recommended firmware before the start of Michaelmas 2025. This work will take place on the following dates, each morning at 07:00:

  • Thursday 28 August: core-hills/ dist-clin/ dist-down/ dist-mwest
  • Tuesday 2 September: core-cent/ dist-opress/ dist-hosp / dist-north
  • Wednesday 3 September: core-mill/ dist-south /dist-nms/ dist-oadd/ dist-sidg

These are revised dates and may be subject to change. This list was updated at 14.15 on 2 September.

Each restart will take about 15 minutes. During this period, institutions connecting to these routers will lose redundancy. We expect the first router will restart around 07:45 and the next router will not restart until back-up and redundancy has been restored on the previous one. The combinations of routers should typically not result in a single institution losing both connections on the same day.

Border and core routers have been scheduled for different days to maintain function at those layers of the network: both border and core can operate with lost redundancy while routers reload.
