The Wireless Team has just completed a major refresh and expansion of the Wi-Fi service at the Sidgwick Site. Lady Mitchell Hall, Little Hall and other lecture theatres in the Lecture Block have gained additional high-capacity access points, as well as shiny new antennas on their established access points. The increased capacity and speed will make it easier to cope with a high number of devices accessing the Wi-Fi service simultaneously, which is crucial in large shared venues.
We've also replaced the wireless equipment in the Allison Richard Building, the faculties of Classics, Divinity and Law, the Institute of Criminology, and the Museum of Classical Archaeology. Many of the departments now have better internal coverage and capacity.
Outdoor coverage
Most exciting of all, we've added 11 new outdoor access points across the Sidgwick Site. This provides Wi-Fi access in the public spaces for the first time, which will be perfect as the warmer days approach, as well as ubiquitous roaming coverage as you dash between buildings in the cold and rain. Wi-Fi coverage is even available at nearby bus stops on West Road!
This is the first of what we hope will be many potential Wi-Fi roll-outs in other outdoor University spaces.
