Managed Web Service (MWS) now offers up to 50GB disk space

last modified Jan 24, 2019 02:23 PM
The Managed Web Service (MWS) is UIS’ hosted web server offering. It provides an easy-to-use control panel and a high-availability service for University users, as an alternative to using commercial web hosting.

In response to customer demand, the service is now available in three tiers, offering as much or as little disk space as you need. All three tiers offer 1GB dedicated RAM and 1 CPU Core, and run off fast SSD disks:

  • 10GB of usable disk (= 40GB real disk space) at £100/year
  • 20GB of usable disk (= 80GB real disk space) at £150/year
  • 50GB of usable disk (= 200GB real disk space) at £300/year

All MWS servers come with a backup facility, and detailed metric system allowing you to see how many resources (CPU, RAM, disk etc.) have been used during the time you have been running your server. See

You can try the service before you commit, to see if it meets your needs. You just need to make payment arrangements within a month of creating it, otherwise it will be deleted automatically. Payment is by institutional purchase order (or equivalent).

Getting your hosted web server is easy, using the self-service Managed Web Service Administration portal at

Whether you are an existing or potential new user of the Managed Web Service we would like to know your opinion about the service, please complete the short survey at
