New future for Moodle

last modified Jan 31, 2019 12:30 PM
Over the next 18 months, we will be making some important changes to the University’s virtual learning environment (VLE), Moodle. These changes are required to meet forthcoming accessibility legislation, improve the user experience and to help the University simplify how it manages data.

Moodle will continue to be the system we use for all teaching and learning materials. We will be creating a new 'clean' Moodle for this content. This will help us to meet accessibility requirements, which will come into force on September 2020. The new Moodle will also provide a superior student user experience, with a more consistent course structure, easier navigation and mobile access.

In parallel, we will be reviewing how best to manage other content stored in Moodle, which includes curriculum data, research data, and various college and University business materials. This work will also help to improve the user experience, as well as simplifying the process of data collection.

Both elements will be completed by summer 2020. In the interim, users should continue to use Moodle exactly as before. The work will be overseen by a project board and we will be consulting widely with users to ensure we provide a high-quality, accessible and secure platform for the University.
