Keeping 10,000 University computers safe from attack

last modified Jan 24, 2019 11:39 AM
The UIS Managed Endpoint Protection Service has reached the milestone of protecting over 10,000 machines from cyber attack. Using latest McAfee software, the service has blocked over 25,000 malware events in the past year.

Vijay SamtaniThe service, which is free to institutions and end users, uses McAfee’s next generation signature-less adaptive threat protection technology. Approximately half of the University machines, and an estimated additional 4000 standalone devices, are now protected against the latest malware threats, including zero-day and ransomware attacks.

Chief Information and Cyber Security Officer, Vijay Samtani said:

“It’s very positive to see so many users being added to the service. The more machines that use this software, the better protected the University will be. I encourage all institutions to review their end point protection and ensure its up to today’s threats.”

UIS Service Manager Chris Quy provides a free on-site assessment of need and suitability for all institutions. The systems are fully tested and easy to install.

“We have added more than 2500 machines to the service in recent months. This includes those at the Departments of Engineering, Physics, Faculty of Classics and on the Administrative Computing Network (ACN), which now join Maths, the Computer Laboratory and more than 40 other institutions using the service. More than half of Cambridge’s Colleges, including Churchill, Corpus Christi and Trinity also rely on the service” said Chris.
