200th MFD printer installed at the University

last modified Mar 12, 2019 11:15 AM

The University’s 200th multi-function device (MFD) was commissioned at the Faculty of Education by UIS’s DS-Print team in February. The faculty chose DS-Print for the level of support provided by UIS and its ability to print across the University Wireless Service. This latest installation takes the number of MFDs at the faculty to 20.

Since 2011, UIS has been working with departments and colleges to roll out DS-print; a standardised platform for printing and scanning. The service has been a huge success, with institutions joining each year since its inception. 29 of the University’s 31 colleges now use the service, and more than 22,000 staff and students used it during the last academic year.

Before DS-print was implemented, staff and students had a fragmented experience when trying to print or scan at the University. Each institution ran its own system and required specific print credit. Now it can all be done using a standard process that is tied-in with the University Card.

Jon Chiffins, IT Manager at the Faculty of Education praised the service:

"The Faculty of Education has recently migrated all of its MFD fleet across to DS-Print. The decision was made for ease of use for all our staff and students, using multiple devices on eduroam, the majority of which were already familiar with DS-Print. The migration process was well structured and went very smoothly. We received great communication with the DS-Print team throughout and all our existing devices were migrated within the agreed time frame. Following the migration, we have received extremely positive comments from staff and students using the service."

UIS is already looking to the future, investigating ways to enhance the service and drive further take-up throughout the University.
