IT Help and Support

University Information Services

This information is for staff in the Unified Administrative Service (UAS). You can see whether your institution or division is in the UAS

Help and support

University Information Services (UIS) supports a range of University-wide services. This includes your University account (formerly called Raven), eduroam wifi and Microsoft 365. You can contact our Service Desk if you do not have a local IT team and need support.

Training services

Free training is available to help develop your skills while you're at the University. The University's Personal and Professional Development (PPD) and UIS training teams both offer training courses.

You can book training through the University Training Booking System (UTBS). Login with your University account password (formerly called Raven), then browse for courses and events by theme or date.

UIS offers online, self-taught and instructor-led IT courses on a variety of themes. Visit our IT training pages to find out more.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning offers a range of online courses on creative, technical and professional skills, available for all University and College staff and students.

University password (formerly Raven) management

You should use the University account password management app if you have forgotten your password or think your account has been compromised. If you think you have been the victim of an online scam, consult your local IT staff for advice. You must also report it to the UIS Service Desk so they can investigate and take action to block malicious activity.

Phones and video conferencing

The Telecoms Offices provides serval services:

Office and collaboration software

Microsoft 365 for Education is a suite of cloud-based applications and collaboration tools that are free of charge to all professional services staff working in the UAS. This includes Word, Excel, OneDrive and Teams.

Remote access

You can access most of the University's systems and online resources using your University account (formerly Raven). You can also set up Virtual Private Network (VPN) access for resources that normally require you to be connected directly to the University Data Network or the Administrative Computing Network (ACN).

Set up VPN access

You can also access ACN network drives on your computer when it's not connected to the wired network in your University office. For example, when you're working remotely. You can do this after setting up the ACN VPN.

File storage services

If you’re using a Windows University Managed Desktop (UMD) device you will have access to Z drive which is a shared drive. You will need to check with your new team or your local IT team if you should have access to this.

We recommend cloud-based storage for hybrid working as you don’t need to be on the University network. You can also choose from 4 cloud-based file storage options:

  • OneDrive for Business: A free 1TB cloud-based file store, integrated with the Microsoft 365 apps. It is suitable for everyday documents and files that are personal to you. Set up your One Drive
  • SharePoint: A SharePoint team site allows you to work collaboratively on documents within a team or a group. Every Microsoft Team has a SharePoint site for you to store shared documents.
  • Google Drive: A free 20GB file store that is part of the Google Workspace for Education apps
  • Dropbox Business (subscription required): Unlimited storage at a discounted rate when purchased through the University and linked to your @cam email address (you can get a rebate if you already have a personal subscription)
