OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) to macOS High Sierra (10.13), excluding OS X Yosemite (10.10)

These instructions are intended for configuring the UIS VPN for Macs running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion to 10.13 High Sierra, excluding OS X Yosemite (10.10). OS X Yosemite (10.10) users should follow the appropriate instructions.

 Collecting Network Token

  1. Visit https://tokens.csx.cam.ac.uk
  2. Copy the sixteen character Network Access Token onto the clipboard.

Installing and configuring the VPN

  1. Download the VPN Configuration profile
  2. You should be prompted to open the downloaded file, if not then simply double click it.
  3. Click Install

  4. When prompted type in the username and password of an admin account on your Mac
    user authentication prompt
  5. Click Show All in the toolbar and then choose Network.
  6. From the interfaces list select the Cambridge VPN entry
  7. Fill in your VPN username (crsid@cam.ac.uk) and paste the Network Access token collected earlier into the password field.
  8. Tick Show VPN status in menu bar then click Apply to finish the installation

  9. Quit System Preferences.

Using the VPN connection

To start the VPN connection:

  • Either choose Connect University Information Services VPN from the VPN menu bar item
  • Or choose Connect from the interface in the Networks System Preference.

When you have finished using the VPN choose Disconnect from either of the locations listed above.

Removing the VPN

  1. Open System Preferences and choose Profiles.
  2. Select the University Information Services profile and click -
  3. Authenticate with an admin username and password when prompted.
