Wi-Fi access for students: Windows

How to set up eduroam on a Windows PC or laptop running Windows Vista or later

These instructions are for configuring eduroam for Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10. Before you begin, make sure you're in a location where the eduroam wireless network is available, have your @cam email address handy and have collected your network access token from the UIS Token page.

1

Download the appropriate eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT) for your version of Windows:

Look for the file in your usual download location, and run it.

2

Where the tool asks for your username, you need to enter your @cam email address in the format [CRSid]@cam.ac.uk.

Where it asks for your password, you need to enter the 16-character network access token you collected from the UIS Token page.

The eduroam CAT will then set the configuration automatically!

Troubleshooting

Internet Explorer or Edge reports that the eduroam CAT file is corrupt when I try to run the file within the web browser.

Please download and save the file, and then run it from your usual download folder instead.

My anti-virus software (such as McAfee) detects the file as malware.

This is a false positive. Please turn off McAfee temporarily if you encounter this problem, but don't forget to turn it back on afterwards!

I followed the instructions but eduroam still isn't working.

Try removing the non-working profile and starting again afresh. The uninstallation process varies according to the version of Windows you're running, here's an example for Windows 7:

  1. Left-click on the 'Wireless application' icon in the system tray. It looks like a bar chart.
  2. Click 'Open Network and Sharing Center'.
  3. Click 'Manage Wireless Networks', on the left of the window.
  4. In the 'Wireless Network Management' window, select 'eduroam' and click 'Remove' to delete the eduroam profile.

Now run through the instructions again, making sure you enter the correct user name and password.
