Wi-Fi access for students: iOS

How to set up eduroam on a mobile device running iOS

These instructions are for configuring eduroam for iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads. Before you begin, make sure you're in a location where the eduroam wireless network is available, have your @cam email address handy and have collected your network access token from the UIS Token page.

The instructions are different depending on which version of iOS you're running:

Setting up eduroam on iOS 7 or later

Download this mobile configuration file. You'll see a screen like this:

Click the 'Install' button. When prompted, click 'Install Now'.

Enter your full @cam email address when asked to enter a username, in the format [CRSid]@cam.ac.uk. For example:

When asked for a password, enter the 16-character network access token you collected from the UIS Token page.

You'll see this screen confirming that the profile has been installed. Press 'Done'.

To make sure your device doesn't connect to UniOfCam instead of eduroam, go to Settings and then Wi-Fi (on iOS 10 – it might be Settings, General, Network and Wi-Fi on earlier versions of iOS) and click the 'i' symbol to the right of UniOfCam. Then make sure that 'Auto-Join' is off, like below:

Your device should now automatically connect to the University's Wireless Service via eduroam whenever an access point is in range. If it doesn't work, double check the above steps – particularly making sure your entered the user name and password correctly. If you're still unable to connect, contact the for help.

 

Setting up eduroam on iOS 6

Go to Settings and select Wi-Fi.

In the list of networks, pick eduroam.

When prompted, enter your details.

  • For username, enter your full @cam email address in the format [CRSid]@cam.ac.uk. Select Next.
  • For the password,  enter the 16-character network access token you collected from the UIS Token page. Then select Next.

Then select Join.

Return to Settings, Wi-Fi and click the blue arrow to the right of UniOfCam. Ensure that 'Auto-Join' is off.

Your device should now automatically connect to the University's Wireless Service via eduroam whenever an access point is in range. If it doesn't work, double check the above steps – particularly making sure your entered the user name and password correctly. If you're still unable to connect, contact the  for help.
