Various elements of the Raven system use 'Browser Cookies'. Because of privacy concerns, browsers allow you to restrict which cookies you accept. In order to use some Raven facilities and to access most Raven-protected sites your browser must accept the cookies that are used and many Raven-protected sites check that this is happening.

If you are seeing this message then this check is failing. This can be for one of a number of reasons:

  • Your browser may really be rejecting the cookie, in which case you will need to adjust the configuration of your browser before you will be able to access this site (see below for how to do this in common browsers).
  • You may have bookmarked the Raven login page on a previous visit to the site and then used this bookmark in an attempt to log in again. This confuses the cookie test and causes it to incorrectly report that cookies are not being accepted. If you want a bookmark for a Raven-protected site, bookmark the page you get to immediatly after authenticating.
  • Sometimes, clicking on an embedded URL of a Raven-protected resource in a Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) document can cause this message. This is because of confusion within Microsoft Windows about which application (Office or a Web Browser) will complete the Raven authentication. To work around the problem, cut-and-paste the URL directly into a web browser.
